Mohave County Downwinders

I saw this on the news last night.  The Downwinders are people living in or near Kingman, AZ, and were there at the time when nuclear testing was done in the Nevada desert.  Their homes are downwind from all the radiation that scattered and blew their way.  Since then many have suffered from horrible diseases and cancer.  This story was reported by 3TV's awarding winning investigative reporter, Mike Watkiss.  He definately knows how to get to the heart of the story.

  1. Well crap, I've taken a lot of showers in the Kingman waters... I always stopped there coming and going when I drove a truck (Flyin'"J").

We both have nukes on the brain..

  3. Hey, Kingman is supposed to be the site of an enormous amusement park--the size of something like Six Flags. Hmm... Wonder if it's a plot? I love Mike Watkiss-I make fun of him all the time. He's always dressed in black and all tense and dramatic. He cracks me up--kind of like a Geraldo figure. I'm not surprised by the problems there. It's like the Honeywell poisoning in Scottsdale. What a mess. I'm shocked we ever blew up bombs in our own country. Can you say "idiots?"

  5. The point of this story is that downwinders in MOHAVE COUNTY are the only group of downwinders NOT eligible for compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act or RECA. AZ Rep Trent Franks has introduced HR 4712 that would correct this injustice. So please, please write your representatives in congress & senate - no matter where you live in US, and ask that they support HR 4712! I watched the nukes and played in the fallout and have cancer at age 52. RECA compensation is $50k, not much, but it would help with medical bills! Especially those who lose jobs while in treatment and have no income. Please support HR 4712!

  7. Mike made a video for the Downwinders in Kingman and did a great job on TV channel 3. He was most gracious to those of us on the video and it was played on ch.3 12 times. We are thanking them so much. Sincerely Danielle Stephens
