The Forgotten House and Cabin

Cruising along the back roads from West Virginia to Gettysburg, PA, we came across two equally amazing abandoned structures.  Sharon and I saw them down a somewhat paved road and knew we needed to stop and take pictures.  We hiked up the road and notice they were sitting along another two-lane road.  I was drawn to the large two-story home.  It looked like it had been abandoned for many years.  To me, it was a beautiful piece of art for me to photograph.  The other building looked like a small cabin.  Sharon got a reading on that structure for our next Abandoned Places book.

  1. It's sad to think these places have been left to decay in that beautiful countryside. I wonder what the large house looked like back in the day?

    1. I bet it was a lovely home with a big family living inside. We really wanted to explore the inside but the "No Trespassing" sign stopped us.

  2. The photos and house are so very beautiful. Next time I'm in the US, I'll definitely visit some of the spots you photographed.

    1. If you love photographing interesting places, take many of the back roads. That is where my friend and I always find the best places to photograph.

  3. Is it just me or does anyone else look at those pics and think --- I could fix that up?

  4. That two story house looks pretty dangerous to step into. Either the floor would give way or part of the ceiling might fall on your head! Those houses have been there for such a long time. I would guess those structures are about 100 years old. What do you think?

In response to Barry's comment: No way! I wouldn't want to tackle that much work!

  5. That house is huge. I bet it looked pretty in its prime. Now... not so much. More in the line of 'creepy.'
