Silent Prayers

Beautiful statues, words, headstones sit quietly watching over those who have left us and are forever resting under the earth.

Joe's Real BBQ

If you are ever in Gilbert, AZ, you must have a meal at Joe's Real BBQ.  The meat is barbecued slowly and cooked over pecan wood for an amazing unique taste.  All the side dishes and desserts are freshly made with that homemade flavor.  The restaurant is situated inside a red brick building which was built in 1929.  The service was quick and by wonderful people who seemed like they loved working there.  The food was delicious and I plan to go back to Joe's Real BBQ as often as I can.  Oh yeah, their root beer is homemade too.

Small Wonders: Downtown Gilbert, AZ

Gilbert is a small town which supports the many local growers in the state of Arizona.  In the past 20 years, this tiny town has undergone a huge growth spurt and has been one of the best places for businesses and people to live.

Gilbert was known as the “hay capital of the world” and in 1902 a rail line was constructed through the land of William “Bobby” Gilbert.  The town of Gilbert began flourishing around it and became a key farming region until the late 1920s.  In the 1970s, Gilbert was granted 53 square miles of county land in order to prosper and grow.  That turned out to be a smart move because this amazing “small wonder” is a hidden gem which is still growing today.

I just recently took an excursion to Gilbert with Sharon.  Although I have been through the town before, I never stopped, got out, and took time walking the downtown area.  I was glad I finally did.  Many of the businesses in this area pride themselves in providing locally owned products.  “Supporting these businesses means more money stays in Arizona and creates a unique community.”

Bisbee Royale

What is the Bisbee Royale?  It started out in 1918 as the First Baptist Church of Bisbee, and in 2011 it was renovated into a theater with extra incentives.  It is located in old/historic downtown Bisbee along Main Street.  Inside the blue facade, you are treated to new, classic, documentary, and foreign films on their 18' movie screen.  While watching the film, you can enjoy homemade gourmet meals, along with a beer or cocktail or maybe a glass of wine. The Royale has it all even the most delicious desserts for your sweet tooth to enjoy.  They "also host occasional wine tastings and flamenco concerts."

Food Critic Amanda Baillie writes: "...the Royale offers a highly civilized way to experience a movie complete with nibbles, snacks, beer and, most importantly in my view, excellent wine".
The lobby bar is open from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm Friday & Saturday nights.
