Echoes of the Southwest

  I always had a special love for antiques and old worn-out furniture. Whenever I went to an antique store, I was drawn to the wood cabinets, baskets, antique cookware, crocks, and all things that were less than perfect that time has taken its toll on. Basically, organic items that looked like they decorated a home in colonial times. I knew that it was a Scandinavian style that I loved but didn't know it had a particular name. One day I was checking out my recommends on YouTube, and I saw one that was posted by Bridgett's Primitive Passion. The thumbnail on the video showed very old decor and she was doing a house tour. This definitely caught my attention, so I watched it. Oh my, this was definitely my type of decorating. The house looked warm and cozy with all the primitive items throughout the entire house. Since Arizona has such hot summers, I like to use the time to make craft items. I am trying different media to see what I like the most. I purchased a cricut machine and learning what all it can do. So far, I have used it for text and and generic shapes. I have many more projects planned. Sharon and I like watching YouTube videos, especially ones with craft ideas. We saw one where the woman took bottles, added air drying clay and painted them at the end. We just had to try this since we both love playing with clay and painting. We each choose three different bottles and added a different theme on each bottle. The lady on the video used abstract designs, but Sharon and I wanted to do things our way. It was fun, messy and a great way to spend a rainy day. We didn't expect the clay to crack in different places. It is a dry climate here, so we are going to dry the next ones slower and hope for no more cracks. Our next clay projects will be on different items we plan to buy at Goodwill. We will do videos and post those on our Groovy New Life blog and YouTube channel.
