The Farm at South Mountain
On the north side of South Mountain in Phoenix, AZ, sits a
quaint little place known as the Farm at South Mountain. In the early 1920’s,
Dwight Heard obtained a sizable section of land and divided it into 2 acre
parcels with a price tag of over $1000 each. Eventually, 100 pecan trees were
planted on 10 acres and then sold after the work harvesting nuts got too much.
The new owner began transforming the area into what we see today.
If you go there nowadays, you will find many things to look
at as well as places to enjoy meals from ingredients freshly grown on the farm.
There are three restaurants, two event venues, a market, a community garden,
picnic area, and several festivals. They have a gorgeous area for weddings and
other occasions. I highly recommend this place for you to visit if you are ever
in the area.
