High Above Manhatten

The view from the Empire State building is amazing and breathtaking.  Getting to the top is tough for someone who is claustrophobic.  You are crammed in an elevator with many strangers and ride it up several hundred floors (at least it felt that way).  I quickly stood near the door and shut my eyes the whole way up.  It was worth it.  The view blew me away.

  1. WOW great photos. I am not great with heights but I would totally risk it for that view!

  2. I remember that view from many years ago. I also took pics on the World Trade Center while I was there. It was eerie to look at them after 9/11.

  3. Lucky gal--you went on a clear day. Growing up in DC, I think I went there to visit at least once a year--every time totally gray and unable to see the view! Truly an amazing engineering feat. I remember as they were building the Twin Towers, I could see that they were dwarfing the Empire State Building and that was shocking beyond belief. BTW, I love your banner--don't know if I mentioned that. It makes me smile. We are above the norm, aren't we? Or are we just thumbing our nose at the norm? Hmm....More likely, we're saying "there's a norm?"

  4. wicKED; heights don't bother me as much as tiny little spaces. I start to freak out a little when the thought of being in one.

Bubba; sadly I never saw the twin towners in person. I just saw the very big hole and damages the following year.

Sis; it was a beautiful day and very windy. We would not feel the wind on one side and then turn the corner and get blasted with it. The view was even more beautiful at night. Thanks, I like the banner too. The sundown picture in Tombstone was perfect for my blog.

  5. Beautiful photos, as always! The empire state is supposed to be haunted too. The ghosts of those who have jumped are said to be there.

  6. Nice Jessica, it makes the night visits more interesting.

  7. Great shots and what a gorgeous day. Lucky you. I know a number of people who wouldn't mind the ride up, but would be freaked by the height.

  8. MM, yeah there are probably many more people afraid of heights and not small spaces. It is just the opposite with me.

  9. What a beautiful view! I'd be scared to go up there, though. I remember when I went up the Eiffel Tower in an elevator. I don't even have a fear of heights. Not usually, anyway. I was so scared and couldn't wait to get down! There was a problem with the elevator while one of my friends was looking around up there. I remember she had to climb all the way down on a narrow metal staircase! I think she was pretty traumatized by that experience. We were probably as high up as you were at the Empire State Building, judging by the view.
