New River AZ

New River is north of Phoenix on Interstate 17.  It is an unincorporated community with around 15,000 residents.  The settlement got its name from the seasonal wash rom the Agua Fria River which flows into the Salt River.  It started as a stagecoach stop in 1868 by Lord Darrell Duppa.  Before I-17, that stretch of road was know as the old Black Canyon Highway.  It was once paved from Phoenix to New River and was a dirt road from that point on.
