Painted Desert

Sitting in the middle of the badlands of Arizona, is amazing scenery known as the Painted Desert. It is southeast inside of the Petrified Forest National Park and close to the east side of the Grand Canyon National Park. The Painted Desert has a variety of vivid and radiant red and lavender colors. It looks as if someone painted the hills and mountains with one stroke of their brush. The name came from the men in Francisco Vazquez de Coronado’s expedition while looking for the Colorado River for more supplies. They deemed the area El Desierto Pintado (The Painted Desert).

  1. That area had the oddest feel, kind of devoid of history or something, a blank slate.
