Giants Buried in the Desert

One of my favorite shows in the late 1960’s was “Land of the Giants”. The show premise was set in the then-future of 1983 when a small group of Earth people landed on a strange planet when their spaceship runs into a mysterious storm that throws them off course. They land on a planet where the people are twelve times larger than those on Earth. Basically the giants are about 72 feet tall with all objects built to the gigantic scale. They spend the next two seasons (that is all the show lasted), trying to avoid the giants and get their spaceship back to earth.

Do giants exist on Earth? Here is an explanation given by Wikipedia:

“The mythology and legends of many different cultures include monsters of human appearance but prodigious size and strength. "Giant" is the English word (coined 1297) commonly used for such beings, derived from one of the most famed examples: the gigantic of Greek mythology. In various Indo-European mythologies, gigantic peoples are featured as primeval creatures associated with chaos and the wild nature, and they are frequently in conflict with the gods, be they Olympian, Nartian, Hindu or Norse. There are also other stories featuring giants in the Old Testament, perhaps most famously Goliath. Attributed to them are superhuman strength and physical proportions, a long lifespan, and thus a great deal of knowledge. Fairy tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk have formed our modern perception of giants as stupid and violent monsters, frequently said to eat humans, and especially children. However, in some more recent portrayals, like those of Roald Dahl, some giants are both intelligent and friendly. In folklore from all over Europe, giants were believed to have built the remains of previous civilizations. Some, argues that giants had to exist, because nothing else would explain the large walls, stone monuments, and statues that we now know where the remains of Roman construction.”

Apparently these giant skeletons have been unearthed all over the planet even in the deserts of Arizona. In 1891, in Crittenden, Arizona while digging for a commercial building, a giant stone coffin was uncovered. The project manager didn’t want to open it until an expert was called in to examine the strange find. When finally opened, a granite case was found inside which appeared to have held a body of a man at least 12 feet tall. A carving on the casing pointed to the fact that he had six toes and fingers. In Biblical history they speak of the giants during ancient times with six toes and fingers that roam the world.

In 1923, in the Grand Canyon, Samuel Hubbard found two petrified human remains that were 15 and 18 feet in height. These giants were formed of a limestone fossilized and entrenched in the sandstone. One of the remains took days to dig out because it was buried under a rock fall. However, the other one was in a crevice and very tricky to access. Hubbard was able to take pictures of that one. (I tried to find the picture but could not. I am sure it is somewhere out in cyber land.)
