Slaughterhouse Residence

On this past road trip we headed out from Sharon's place to our friend's in Tucson.  We had plenty of time to goof off before meeting him there, so we decided to start with cruising around Casa Grande to look for abandoned places.  I noticed my cell phone battery was dying and I forgot my car charger.  Sharon suggested we stop at a Walmart and pick one up.  Before we went inside the store, I contacted a woman who wrote on my Southwest Abandoned Places facebook page and mentioned that she lived in Casa Grande and talked about a slaughterhouse.  This place got its name because the man who used to live there slaughtered animals in his barn.  Of course, any place that is abandoned, marked with lots of graffiti and claimed to be haunted, we are there.  Before I knew it, we were talking on the phone, met up with her and she had us follow her to the slaughterhouse.  She brought her entire family who also love exploring abandoned places.  They were the nicest people you would ever meet.  We enjoyed every bit of our time at the slaughter house with them except for the gawd awful humid heat.  We had a great time taking pictures, exploring and getting to know her and her family.  Thank you to our special new friends in Casa Grande.  Here are some of the pictures of the residence house or rather what is left of it.  (Next post will be of the slaughterhouse barn.)

  1. I feel a sadness in these. Such strong stuctues, no longer strong and soon to be gone forever.

  2. Very strange place. It makes me wonder about the graffiti, too. Perhaps some of those doing the artwork would not be so nice to meet if they showed up while you were there.

  3. agreed the vandals artwork is a bit disturbing, such sadness that great shrines of history are rubble. i know that it makes way for the future and future things, it just sad... and it would not make for a place to visit if they weren't the way the are... wow i sound like a dog chasing it's tail.

  4. Love the pics! The graffiti is insane! "Suck Dick 4 Coke" - ummm...NICE! Geez! Yeah, not a place you need to be at night.

You and my other big sis have one advantage at your abandon places; you don't have to fight kudzu and massive over-growth of all things green! LOL There are places I'd love to explore, but can't during the summer months! Too much over-growth and snakes REALLY like it like that down here! LOL

  5. Gail, I know what you are saying. I don't know how long this place has been abandoned. I imagine a long time since there in not much left to a roof and many of the walls are deteriorating and almost gone.

Lois, thank goodness it was just us and the nice family that showed us where the place was located. It was hot so I imagine the taggers go there in the evenings especially during the summer months.

iZombie, I am sure the teenies used that place to party at. It does make for an eerie place to tell ghost stories and draw on the walls. I am just glad no one was there when we showed up.

Tara, it is so dry around here in the summer, nothing grows. We did have to watch for snakes and scorpions. Thankfully we didn't see any.

  8. Beautiful place. Some of the graphitti gave me a laugh. "Suck Dick for Coke," was particularly out of place in your lovely photograph.

  9. Jessica, I didn't notice the graffiti until I got home and looked at my pictures. I love the picture of the tub but had to laugh at what it said... kids! My favorite photo is the lone fireplace.

  10. That would've been weird if you had gotten home and saw some evil graffiti message to you in your pictures. I had that happen once at a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party. But awesome pics! And in the movies, there is never a Walmart around when that happens. Just an old gas station with expired milk. That's pretty lucky...

  11. Gorgeous pics and some of that graffiti? Hilarious! Why is it I never run into cool people at Walmart?

  12. Very interesting old house and barn. The house looks like it was once very nice. That painted scene of trees and girls in dresses makes me wonder if that was a wall in a girl's bedroom. The rest of the painting on the wall makes me think some dangerous characters come around now and then. White power graffiti is never a good sign.

    Cool post!
